OUR PRACTICE

Treatment for Depression is Within Reach in Cobourg

We are clinical psychologists who have extensive experience helping individuals, couples, families, and organizations who are interested in therapy, assessment and/or consultation services. The practice was formed in 1990, and has developed over time. We have been at our current location, a comfortable and safe environment, since 1997.

For various reasons, people seek psychological help to improve their emotional well-being and quality of life. The range of problems and concerns we address is broad, as can be expected in helping people in the course of living life. As examples, people come to talk about feeling anxious or depressed, relationship difficulties, trauma and loss, life’s challenges and choices, learning problems, aging or illness, sexual issues or orientation, the aftermath of accidents, and work-related injury and stress. In our work, we are guided by the belief that people can grow, change and gain comfort when enabled by appropriate supports and a better understanding of themselves and their lives.

OUR PROFESSION

Psychologists are licensed health professionals, regulated by provincial statute and governed by the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Psychologists practice within the framework of the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA). Regulation and licensing protect the public by ensuring that psychologists meet a high standard of qualifications, practice according to provincial regulations and a Code of Ethics, and are answerable to consumer complaints.

Only members of the College of Psychologists of Ontario can use the title "psychologist” or "psychological associate”, or hold themselves out to be a psychologist or psychological associate. Likewise, only members of the College can use the terms "psychology” or "psychological” in any description of services offered or provided.

Members of the College must meet rigorous professional entry requirements, including successful completion of graduate education and training in professional psychology, supervised professional experience, and examinations. In our practice, we are required to adhere to applicable legislation, regulations, standards of conduct, professional guidelines and ethical principles, and participate in quality assurance activities to continually update and improve our knowledge and skill.
